Prevention & Support

There are many ways to prevent HIV — what’s yours?

There is no single HIV prevention plan that works for everyone. Your plan should fit your life, health, and personal needs. Options may include condoms, HIV testing, and medicines that help prevent HIV.

PrEP

PrEP is a medication that prevents HIV. Available in multiple forms:

Our team will help you navigate all forms of PrEP and help you decide which one fits your needs. Remember, PrEP does not prevent other types of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).

Want to learn more about PrEP? Call us at 202‑870-7474 or fill out our PrEP resource request form.

HIV Testing

Knowing your status helps you make informed decisions about your sexual health.

Condoms

When used consistently and correctly, condoms are highly effective in preventing sexual transmission of HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).

Treatment
(U = U)

Icon treatment

Treatment is key to preventing HIV.
For people living with HIV, regular care and treatment can help them stay healthy. HIV medicine can lower the amount of HIV in the blood to a level that tests cannot detect. When a person reaches and keeps an undetectable viral load, they cannot pass HIV to someone else through sex. This is known as Undetectable = Un-transmittable, or U=U.
